The Two Ways


1 How happy is the one who does not


walk in the advice of the wicked

or stand in the pathway with sinners


or sit in the company of mockers!


2 Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction,


and he meditates on it day and night.


3 He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams


that bears its fruit in its season,


and its leaf does not wither.


Whatever he does prospers.



Psalm 1:1-3 CSB

  • What does this teach us about God?

    • God blesses those who are His (v1)
    • God does not bless those who belong to the World (v1)
    • God desires, even calls for us to read his word daily, meditating on it (chewing on it) day and night (v2)
    • God will cover and watch over those who belong to Him (v3)
    • God will bless everything that we do when we are obedient to Him (v3)

  • What does this teach us about people/ourselves?

    • People who walk in the council of the wicked, stand in the way of sinners, and sit in the seat of scoffers do not belong to Him and therefore will not be blessed (v1)
    • People who love the Lord delight in Him (v2)
    • People who love the Lord delight in His Word (v2)
    • People who love the Lord meditate on His word day and night (v2)
    • People who belong to the Lord can be confident that they will not fall by the wayside.
    • People who belong to the Lord have a stable foundation and all that they do is blessed by the Lord (v3)

  • By God's grace, how will you obey?

    • I will delight in the Lord and His word.
    • I will be obedient to His word, mediating on it day and night.
    • I will live a life that is fully submitted to his word, trusting and believing that all that I do will be guided with favor by The Lord.

Prayer: Dear God, You are so good. Your love for me is unconditional and everlasting. Create in me a clean heart and a renewed spirit that walks in your ways. Ignite a fire in me for Your Word and help me to see myself and my life through your eyes. Holy Spirit speak to me and reveal yourself to me through the scriptures. Help me to mediate and chew on your word, soaking up all that you have for me. Help me to be obedient to Your word. Help me to delight in you and your word, that I may be blessed in all that I do. In Jesus name, Amen.
