John 15:12-15

12 “This is my command: Love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this: to lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father.

  • What does this teach us about God?

    • God commands us to love one another
    • God is love, he is the truest definition of agape love
    • God’s love for us is demonstrated in Jesus laying down his life for us
    • God requires obedience 
    • Jesus has made known to us the plans of God
    • The life of Jesus on earth is our example of righteous living
    • God calls those who trust in him, and are obedient to him, friends

  • What does this teach us about people/ourselves?

    • We are to love one another
    • We are to follow the example of Jesus loving us and extend love to others
    • The greatest example of love is that Jesus laid down his life for us to restore us back to God as a result of the separation from sin.
    • By studying God’s word, we learn about him
    • Jesus has made known to us everything that he learned from God

  • By God's grace, how will you obey?

    • We obey by learning God’s word
    • We obey by following the example of Jesus Christ 
    • We obey by having faith in Jesus Christ
    • We obey by following God’s commands
    • Jesus tells us that the greatest command is to love God with all of our heart, mind, and soul, and to love one another as ourselves. 

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for your infinite love, we thank you for sending your son to die on the cross for our sins, your word says that yet while we were still sinners you came and died for us, in order to restore us back to you. Greater love has no one than this to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. God we thank you that you call us friend, we thank you for your word, the examples and teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to follow. Lord help us to love others as ourselves. Lord help us by your Holy Spirit to obey, trust, and have growing faith in you that grows everyday. 



Lord we praise you because you are good, we praise you because you love us like no one can or ever can. Your love is eternal and everlasting, help us God to be your ambassadors to show love to everyone that we come in contact with, In Jesus name, -AMEN
