Philippians 4:6-7

Jan 31, 2023

6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 CSB

  • What does this teach us about God?

    • God does not want us to worry
    • God does not want us to be anxious
    • God is sovereign, he is in control
    • God wants to hear from us
    • God wants us to present our requests to him
    • God gives peace
    • God gives protection
    • God gives help
    • God cares for us
  • What does this teach us about people/ourselves?

    • We are prone to worry and anxiety
    • We can bring all requests before God(nothing too small or big)
    • We can place our trust in God
    • Prayer reminds us that we are not in control
    • Peace comes from God, not from ourselves
    • We need God’s peace to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus
  • By God's grace, how will you obey?

    • Instead of being quick to worry about situations, I will go to God in prayer
    • When I feel anxiety rising in my body, I will go to God in prayer
    • I will reflect on past times when God has answered my prayers (gratitude journal)
    • I will seek to hear God’s voice in scripture, reading God’s promises and reminding myself of the faithfulness of God
    • I will choose to praise God for who he is, rather than worry(thanksgiving)
    • I will encourage my team mates, classmates, and everyone that I come in contact with to trust in Jesus because he cares for us

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you have reminded me in your word not to worry or to be anxious but that in every situation, no matter how big or small to present my requests to you. Lord, I thank you that you care for me,  so much that you  don’t want me to live in a place of worry or anxiety, but that you give me freedom from worry. Lord that I can rest in you that your will be done in my life. As a result of  your infinite  love for me you have provided me with my Savior Jesus Christ, whom you sent to die on the cross for my sins that I would have a right to the tree of life, that I would have a restored relationship with you. Lord you tell me in your word that your yoke is easy, and your burden is light, may I trust in you Lord with every struggle, with every trial, having hope that your will is far greater than my own. Lord bless me to desire your will for my life, not my own. Lord I thank you that you are faithful to your word, that no trial of mine has taken you by surprise. May your peace which surpasses all understanding continue to guard my heart and my mind in my Savior Jesus Christ. AMEN.
