1 Corinthians 6:19-20

19 Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 CSB

  • What does this teach us about God?

    • God has gifted us the Holy Spirit, which dwells inside of us. Our body is a temple – it must be holy for God’s Spirit to dwell inside of you. (v.19)
    • God, The Creator, is the owner of our bodies. For Him to work in us and through us, He must have all authority. (v.19)
    • God has purchased us. We have been adopted into His family. We are heirs to The Kingdom.
    • God is loving. He sent his Son, Jesus, to pay a debt that we could not pay on our own. (v.20)
    • God deserves to be glorified and honored. We do this with our entire lives, not just on Sundays. (v.20)
  • What does this teach us about people/ourselves?

    • Believers have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of them.
    • Believers have been made holy through the blood of Jesus Christs, which allows the Holy Spirit to dwell inside of us.
    • We do not have any rights or claims to ourselves. (body, mind, soul)
    • In all things (body, mind, soul) we are to glorify God.
  • By God's grace, how will you obey?

    • I will chase holiness through obedience to God.
    • I will treat my mind, body, and soul not as my own, but as the Lord’s
    • I will make room for Jesus in my life, eliminating things that don’t represent Him. (Eat, Watch, Hear, Environment, what I consume)
    • I will live my life as a living sacrifice to God – this IS the Glorified Life
    1. Sacrificial – Count the cost
    2. Submitted – All authority to Him
    3. Sold out – Fire, not lukewarm

For reference and reflection consider what Paul writes in Romans 12:1-2.

"Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God."

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are so good. We owe you everything. Lord we magnify you, we glorify you, and we give you praise. May we never forget that we are yours. You have the rights to us and we ask that you do with us what you please. Lord prepare our minds, bodies and souls to be a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to you, that you may dwell inside of us. Lead us down the path of righteousness, constantly challenging us in our faith. Help us to remain in your word, using it to cut through the things that separate us from you. Jesus, we are yours. We thank you and we praise you. In Jesus name, amen.
