Scripture

  • Mark 3:13-14

    The Twelve Apostles

Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve, whom he also named apostles, to be with him, to send them out to preach...

  • 2 Timothy 2:2

What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

  • Philippians 3:17

Join in imitating me, brothers and sisters, and pay careful attention to those who live according to the example you have in us.

  • Acts 20:18-21

When they came to him, he said to them, “You know, from the first day I set foot in Asia, how I was with you the whole time, serving the Lord with all humility, with tears, and during the trials that came to me through the plots of the Jews. You know that I did not hesitate to proclaim anything to you that was profitable and to teach you publicly and from house to house. I testified to both Jews and Greeks about repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus.

  • 1 Corinthians 4:14-17, 11:1

    Paul’s Fatherly Care

4:14-17 I’m not writing this to shame you, but to warn you as my dear children. For you may have countless instructors in Christ, but you don’t have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me. This is why I have sent Timothy to you. He is my dearly loved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you about my ways in Christ Jesus, just as I teach everywhere in every church.

11:1 Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ.

  • 1 Thessalonians 1:4-7

For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, in the Holy Spirit, and with full assurance. You know how we lived among you for your benefit, and you yourselves became imitators of us and of the Lord when, in spite of severe persecution, you welcomed the message with joy from the Holy Spirit. As a result, you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.

Jesus’ ministry revolved around 12 very ordinary young men called disciples. He called each of them by name with a simple invitation: “Follow Me.” And they had the privilege of being with Him constantly (Mark 3:14). They observed His way of life and His teachings. Jesus was and still is the ultimate model.

Paul’s ministry was the same. Paul modeled what it looked like to live a life devoted to serving the Lord. His life reflected the ways of Jesus so much that he was able to say, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1).

As you begin empowering others in their E3 discipleship journey, realize that much of their training has already been received as they’ve watched you do it with them. Begin with the intent to multiply and ensure everything you do is reproducible. You’ve been using E3 to lead them in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church. It’s now time for them to take what they’ve heard and seen from you and pass it on to others (2 Timothy 2:2).

TAKE ACTION

  1. Model multiplication by going with your disciples to Engage and Equip others.
  2. Pray with your disciples for multiplication in and beyond their circle of influence.
